SUNY Cobleskill’s Department of Early Childhood and Psychology offers four degree programs, each of which is grounded in evidence-based theory and best practices:
- The Early Childhood A.A.S. program combines specifically designed early childhood coursework with study in the liberal arts and sciences. Included is a semester of practicum experience in which students observe, plan, record and assess outcomes under the supervision of a classroom teacher or agency professional.
- The A.S. in Child and Family Services degree is designed for students who plan to work with children and families in a broad range of careers. The curriculum was designed with a commitment to strengthening families and fostering the healthy development of children.
- Our B.S. in Child Studies: Ages Birth - 5 program prepares students for positions in settings with young children and families, as well as for advanced study. Successful students learn and follow the department’s Code of Ethics; they also develop strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The B.S. in Applied Psychology program is one of only a few in New York State with the option for a Rural / Community Psychology concentration focusing on advocacy in community environments for family and children, and for those struggling with drug addiction, alcohol abuse or poverty. Students receive applied experience through a 15-credit internship.
