Hawk Banding

Students in FWLD 220 Wildlife Management have been banding hawks during their fall migration for many years. Each fall, falconer and bird bander Gary Lawrence runs the hawk banding station on Franklin Mountain many weekends for small groups of students. Students learn how to capture, handle, and band raptors such as red-tailed hawks, rough-legged hawks, goshawks, Cooper's hawks, and sharp-shinned hawks.
