International Admissions

Graduating international high school and transfer students are welcome to apply to SUNY Cobleskill for an undergraduate degree program. At SUNY Cobleskill, international students will find a private school education in a personalized setting at a state university price. SUNY Cobleskill is also known for its friendly and supportive faculty and staff.

Degree-seeking international students who wish to apply to SUNY Cobleskill may apply online at Students who prefer a paper application should contact the Office of Admissions at In addition to the application, the following documents must be submitted:


  1. All secondary and post-secondary transcripts in English or with a certified English translation
  2. An official financial statement showing sufficient funds to cover one year of full-time study
  3. Proof of English language proficiency for non-native English speakers (TOEFL, IELTS or English proficiency certificate)
  4. A $50 USD application fee


International students in dual diploma or cooperative degree programs should also follow the procedure stated above.


All applications are reviewed individually. Admission to SUNY Cobleskill is by curriculum and is competitive. Applicants are reviewed without regard to race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, veteran status, disability, marital status or sexual orientation.


For students taking the TOEFL exam, our TOEFL institutional code is 2524. For information on the TOEFL exam and a schedule of test dates in your region, go to It is recommended that the application and supporting documents be received by May 15 for fall applicants and October 15 for spring applicants.


Once you have submitted your application, you can check the status of your application at: to find out when the SUNY Application Processing Center processed your application. Once processed by the Application Processing Center, the Office of Admissions will inform you if any materials are outstanding.

Exchange Students

SUNY Cobleskill has several exchange agreements with international universities. International exchange students may spend one semester or one academic year at SUNY Cobleskill. Students applying from partner universities should use the printable international student application. No application fee is required.
In addition to the international student application, the documents listed in #1-3 above should be submitted to the Office of International Education.


Requirements for all Students

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

A TOEFL score of 500 (paper test) or 61 (iBT) is required for direct entrance into academic programs of study. A band score of 5.5 on the IELTS examination is also accepted for direct enrollment in academic programs.

For students scoring between 460 and 499 on the TOEFL examination or 5.0 on the IELTS exam, it is necessary to enroll in the Summer Intensive ESL Program at SUNY Cobleskill first. Students who successfully complete the ESL program DO NOT need to take the TOEFL exam again.



(F-1 Student Visa) 

High school students applying to SUNY Cobleskill as freshmen (first year students) must first complete high school and obtain a high school diploma.


(J-1 Scholar Visa) 
Students must have authorization from their university or sponsoring agency.


Health Insurance

All international students will purchase international health insurance at SUNY Cobleskill. The cost is approximately $500(US) for one semester (fall or spring). There is a hospital in Cobleskill and health services are available at the college.
