SUNY General Education Core Requirements

The State University of New York has mandated that students who desire to gain a baccalaureate degree from SUNY must complete a minimum of 30 credits of General Education courses with at least one course (3 credits) in each of the ten content areas listed below.  Foreign Language and Mathematics requirements may be met by specified NYS Regents scores but 30 credits of General Education courses are still required.  Exception: all Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Business Administration programs at SUNY Cobleskill require completing 24 credits of General Education courses in eight of the ten content areas.  See individual program descriptions for specific course and content area requirements.

Students who wish to gain an Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science degree must complete 21 credits in seven of the ten content areas.  Students who wish to gain an Associate in Applied Science degree should follow the requirements as specified in the individual program descriptions.

The approved courses for each content area are listed below.  Not all courses are offered every semester and courses may be added or deleted from the list each semester.  Once a course is removed from the list it may no longer be used to meet SUNY General Education requirements in future semesters.  It will, however, count as meeting the requirement for students who are currently enrolled in the course or who have previously taken the course while it was on the approved list.
