What to Bring

It is most important to bring any correspondence and information sent to you by the college! These documents can make your opening days much easier.

 

Here is a list of items that might make your room a more comfortable place for you and your roommate:

 

  • Alarm clock
  • Can opener
  • Clothes hangers
  • Desk lamp and/or a floor or table lamp
  • Hand sanitizer
  • High efficiency laundry detergent
  • Laundry bag
  • Mug, a bowl, silverware
  • Official college opening schedule
  • Pillow and blankets
  • Posters, wall and room decorations
  • Sheets for a twin size bed (extra long if possible)
  • Shower shoes
  • Shower Tote (to transport your things)
  • Small trash can
  • Soap (bath and laundry)
  • Swimsuit — SUNY Cobleskill has a great indoor pool!
  • Throw rug
  • Toiletries
  • Towels - Bath Towels, Hand Towels, and Wash Cloths
  • Warm clothes

These items are NOT allowed in student rooms:

 

  • Candles/incense
  • Electric Blankets
  • Extension Cords
  • Futons or lofts
  • Halogen Lamps
  • Hot plates, electric frying pans, or other cooking devices
  • Microwave Ovens
  • Pets of any kind (except fish)
  • Refrigerators larger than 1.75 amps
  • Telephones and Answering Machines
  • Washable Markers/Crayons and other "wall marking" items

You may also want to consider packing these items:

 

  • Calculator
  • Computer
  • Hair dryer
  • Hot Air Popcorn popper (Must be an auto shut-off model)
  • Hot pot/coffee maker (Must be an auto shut-off model)
  • Iron (Must be an auto shut-off model)
  • Plastic crates for storage

  • Stereo
  • Television (every room is cable wired with over 90 channels)
  • UL Listed Power Strip Equipped with Overcurrent Protection for you Electronic Devices
