FINANCIAL AID STAFF ASSISTANT
(SL-2)
POSITION
Term appointment to begin September 2008. This is a calendar year (twelve-month) professional appointment. The Financial Aid Staff Assistant reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Financial Aid Staff Assistant will have a variety of duties. These duties would include the use and development of technology to better assist the student and Financial Aid Office in creating, communicating and disbursing aid, and interaction with students and families in the overall financial aid process. This is a dynamic position that requires flexibility in work assignments and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, technology based environment.
Responsible for the technical running of the office, downloading, processing, and sending all files related to Financial Aid; writing SQL & SQR database queries and developing macros to get information to help the office in better processing aid and filling out reports; assisting in the creation of tools to move toward more technological communication with students.
Responsible for direct services to and processing of students making sure FAFSA’s are correct and following up if not; doing all verifications and follow-ups as required; assisting with any student or parent questions; counseling and processing of special populations (e.g., Veterans).
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Finance, or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. A good working knowledge of SQL & SQR relational database programming and the ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of SCT BANNER strongly preferred. Strong commitment to customer service. A working knowledge of Federal and State financial aid programs and awarding is a plus. Knowledge of software and hardware crucial to the operation of the office and the ability to learn and apply new technology.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary: $35,354. Employee benefits with the State University of New York are attractive.
