In-Person in Fall 2021

SUNY Cobleskill is making every effort to provide the safest living and learning environment for you to fully enjoy your collegiate experience this Fall. Our plans are aligned with local, state and federal guidance and our commitment in upholding public health standards.

In a measure to preserve community health, SUNY Cobleskill will require that all students planning to live on campus during the Fall 2021 semester must have begun or completed their COVID-19 vaccination series by the time they arrive on campus, with limited medical or religious exceptions (more information below).

The SUNY System is preparing for the Food and Drug Administration’s imminent approval of one or more COVID-19 vaccines. Once full approval is granted, SUNY will mandate that all SUNY students taking in-person classes be vaccinated. The vaccines are currently available through an FDA emergency use authorization.

If you are eligible and not yet vaccinated, you can check vaccine availability in your area with New York State’s vaccination website or the CDC’s Vaccine Finder.

Please check this website and your campus email often for the latest updates on our Fall 2021 Plan.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Residential Students

We are excited for your arrival and have been getting the campus ready to start our 2021-2022 academic year in person. As has been the case throughout the pandemic, we have collectively made sacrifices, endured difficult circumstances, and changed course to keep our community safe and to continue your academic journey. This semester is no exception.

We heard you loudly and clearly then, and we hear you now. You want few restrictions on your daily routines, and you want to fully engage in on-campus experiences. We plan to uphold our promise to do all that we can with the tools we have to keep you safe and with as little disruption as possible to your in-person campus learning and activities.

Our concern regarding rising COVID-19 cases throughout the country and the highly contagious delta variant have once again forced us to revise our plans. SUNY Cobleskill will require that all students planning to live on campus during the Fall 2021 semester must have begun or completed their COVID-19 vaccination series by the time they arrive on campus, with limited medical or religious exceptions.

Students must submit their proof of full or partial vaccination through the Wellness Center’s Patient Portal by August 13, 2021 by 4:00 p.m. EST (or submit a request for a medical or religious exemption). Information on doing so can be found in the below menu sections. The College is prepared to assist students in obtaining the vaccine, which is effective, convenient, and available at no cost at most local pharmacies and healthcare sites.

Our previous tools to help alleviate increased COVID-19 rates included mandated restrictions on campus (face masks, social distancing, event limitations, etc.). We collectively adhered to these mandates, as they were our best defense to honor our core hands-on mission and students’ desires to continue their progress toward obtaining a degree. We were successful because of your resilience and care for your fellow campus members, and because we used all of the recommended tools from health experts, with SUNY’s guidance and endorsement.

Vaccines are now part of this toolkit and a necessary addition to protect your reasonable right and expectation of a healthy, safe, and engaged campus life. SUNY is supporting this decision, and many others see the same need to implement this tool.

This mandate will allow residential students to enjoy a healthy living environment and will provide further protection against potential spread in a shared communal living space. SUNY Cobleskill is committed to doing our part in SUNY’s greater effort to reach herd immunity, which is our greatest chance to ensure a safe place to learn and enjoy on-campus experiences with the fewest restrictions to daily routines.

As has been previously announced, SUNY is preparing for the Food and Drug Administration’s imminent approval of one or more COVID-19 vaccines. The vaccines are currently available through an FDA emergency use authorization. Once full approval is granted, which could happen at any point during the Fall semester, SUNY will mandate that all SUNY students be vaccinated if they are taking in-person classes, regardless of their residential or commuter status.

Please see below for all information on what this policy means for you as a residential student, as determined by your current vaccination status.

Residential Students Who Are Fully Vaccinated

If you have already been vaccinated and have provided your documentation to the Wellness Center, you do not need to take further action. If you have not yet provided documentation of your vaccination status, please do so through the Medicat Patient Portal, by emailing the Wellness Center at WellnessCenter@cobleskill.edu, or fax to 518-255-5819.

Thank you for getting vaccinated and taking steps to protect yourself from the virus!

COVID-19 Testing Protocol

You do not have to submit a negative test prior to move-in or test upon arrival. You may choose to opt out of weekly testing once your proof of vaccination has been provided to the College.

Residential Students Who Are Partially Vaccinated

The College will require you to have your first dose of the vaccine (if receiving Pfizer or Moderna) or your single shot vaccine (if receiving Johnson & Johnson) not later than two (2) weeks prior to your scheduled arrival on campus.

If you are only partially vaccinated by your scheduled move-in date, please inform our staff at check-in. They will work with you to schedule your second vaccine at a local site and advise you regarding transportation, if needed.

Anyone studying, living, or working in New York can use the state-run vaccination website or call the state's COVID-19 vaccination hotline at 1-833-697-4829 to request an appointment at any state-run site.  You may also use the CDC’s Vaccine Finder to easily find a location in Cobleskill offering the second dose of your vaccine. Each location displayed on the Vaccine Finder within the 12043 zip code will allow you to view which of the vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson) are in stock.

Please email covidtesting@cobleskill.edu if you experience any issues.

COVID-19 Testing Protocol

You must provide a negative COVID-19 test result from a medical provider taken within five (5) days prior to arriving on campus OR you will be required to test once upon your arrival to campus and wait for your result to be returned (approximately 15 minutes) before moving into your room. If your test comes back positive, temporary on-campus living accommodations will be made available to you in our isolation/quarantine residential area.

You will also be required to participate in weekly, on-campus COVID-19 testing until you reach fully vaccinated status and provide your documentation through the Medicat Patient Portal, by emailing the Wellness Center at WellnessCenter@cobleskill.edu, or fax to 518-255-5819.

Fully vaccinated students may opt out of mandatory weekly testing upon the submission of documentation showing completion of a full vaccination series.

Residential Students Who Still Require Vaccination

If you are registered to live on campus in the Fall 2021 semester and have not yet received your vaccination, the College requires that you have your first dose of the vaccine (if receiving Pfizer or Moderna) or your single shot vaccine (if receiving Johnson & Johnson) no later than two (2) weeks prior to your scheduled arrival on campus.

Anyone studying, living or working in New York can use the state-run vaccination website or call the state's COVID-19 vaccination hotline at 1-833-697-4829 to request an appointment at any state-run site. You may also use the CDC’s Vaccine Finder to locate a pharmacy near you that is offering the vaccine.

Please email covidtesting@cobleskill.edu if you experience any issues.

Housing Cancellation for Unvaccinated Students

Students unwilling or not able to comply with the vaccination requirement for on-campus housing may petition to cancel housing by submitting this completed form before 11:59 p.m. on August 4, 2021.

Students who petition for medical or religious exemption who are denied such exemption must request housing cancellation within three business days of notification that their exemption has been denied.

Students who fail to meet these deadlines will be subject to housing charges for the Fall 2021 semester but are only permitted to occupy their space if they are fully vaccinated prior to occupancy.

International Students

The CDC and New York State Department of Health have recommended that completing a WHO-approved vaccine series is acceptable as proof of being fully vaccinated. Six COVID-19 vaccines are approved at this time: Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Sinopharm, and Sinovac. Please see the WHO’s Emergency Use List for details.

If you do not have access to any COVID-19 vaccine in your home country or cannot complete your vaccine series before you arrive in the United States, and are not requesting a religious or medical exemption (please see details below), College staff will work with you to schedule a vaccination appointment within three days of your arrival to campus.

Please email covidtesting@cobleskill.edu if you need any assistance.

COVID-19 Testing Protocol

If partially vaccinated or unvaccinated, you must provide a negative COVID-19 test result from a medical provider taken within five (5) days prior to arriving on campus OR you will be required to test once upon your arrival to campus and wait for your result to be returned (approximately 15 minutes) before moving into your room. Fully vaccinated students may opt out of mandatory weekly testing upon the submission of documentation showing completion of a full vaccination series.

Medical and Religious Exemptions

Residential students may request an exemption from the residential COVID-19 vaccination requirement for medical or religious reasons. Click here to read the requirements for a medical or religious vaccination exemption.

The deadline to submit a request for a medical or religious exemption is August 13, 2021.

Requests for exemptions must be written and signed by you if you are 18 years of age or older, or a parent or guardian if you are under the age of 18.

Exemption requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by a committee; they are not automatically granted. Outcomes of requests will be communicated to you through our secured messaging system.

If you are granted an exemption, you will be required to adhere to the Obligations of Students Exempted from Vaccine Requirement (see below).

Obligations of Students Exempt from Vaccination Requirement

Residential students who are granted an exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine requirement are subject to special obligations to enable them to remain on campus. Such students are required to:

  1. Provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test by a medical provider taken within five (5) days of your move-in date OR you will be required to test upon your arrival to campus.
  2. Comply with mandatory COVID-19 surveillance testing at least once a week.
  3. Maintain six feet of social distancing and wear a mask at all times while indoors except (1) when in your private residential or personal space or (2) when eating meals on campus while seated and social distancing is appropriately enforced.

Students who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will need to abide by all COVID-19 related health and safety restrictions if accessing a SUNY facility, including, but not limited to, use of face masks, social distancing, participation in surveillance testing, quarantine, and isolation.
