The Paramedic program fills a rapidly expanding medical role that is gaining in demand. As an allied healthcare professional, the paramedic is the most highly trained EMS provider in the pre-hospital setting. The paramedic responds to medical emergencies and provides the critical care necessary to support, sustain and often save lives.
Paramedic education includes advanced skills in patient assessment, advanced airway management, cardiac care, and advanced cardiac life support. Students will have the opportunity to become proficient in intubation, ECG monitoring and 12-lead ECG, defibrillation, IV therapy, medical administration, and more.
Through didactic education and hands-on experience in the lab, hospital and field, our program will minimally prepare you to be a competent entry-level paramedic in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains with possible exit points at the AEMT and EMT levels. Our program will prepare you to make critical decisions, provide compassionate care, and be a confident leader on the scene of an emergency. As a paramedic, you are the critical link between the patient and the hospital, providing care that can affect a patient, long after your work is done.

Paramedic Certification
Classes are taught by faculty who are active in the region’s EMS community. They are dedicated to helping students learn the essentials of becoming competent entry-level paramedics. Sample courses for both the AAS and Certificate include:
CAAHEP Accredited Paramedic Programs and CoAEMSP Letter of Review (LoR) Programs track and report outcome measures annually to the Committee on Accreditation for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).The most current CoAEMSP Annual Report was for 2020-2021 academic year.The most recent success rate for the New York State Cognitive exam was 100%.The most recent positive placement rate for graduates was 100%. Positive placement is defined by the CoAEMSP as ‘Employed full or part-time in a related field and/or continuing his/her education and/or serving in the military’. Positive placement is measured at completion of the program.The most recent retention rate was 100%
The SUNY Cobleskill Paramedic Program delivers a graduate who is the field-ready paramedic that employers want to hire. Job placement for graduates who obtained NYS paramedic certification at the end of the course is 100%.
Per the US Dept. of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the projected growth rate in EMS employment for 2010 -2020 is very good, at 33%. The average rate for all occupations is 14%.
Applicants seeking the Paramedic Certificate and all transfer students must complete a pre-qualification interview. These applicants will receive a link to the pre-qualification form, which will allow them to make an appointment to meet with us.

After Acceptance:
Students will be registered for paramedic classes upon meeting all of the requirements as outlined on the prequalification letter/checklist that was sent to them after their interview and per Admissions policies. If, at any time, a student no longer meets those requirements, they may be withdrawn from classes (EG: Expired EMT card).
Waitlist/High-Demand Procedures:
Should the Paramedic Program have more students than seats available, they will register students as seats becomes available and in the order of which they completed all necessary requirements. Should more than one student complete their requirements on the same day, registration order will be determined by the date of deposit and, in the case of multiple students depositing on the same day, alphabetically by last name/first name.
Students who are still interested in joining the class but were unable to be registered and are waiting for someone else to drop or be withdrawn will be notified via their provided email address of any class vacancy and will have 24 hours from the sent time stamp on the email to respond. If the student does not respond, the next student on the list will be contacted in the same fashion. If, for some reason a student is unable to get into classes this Fall, they will be given priority for next year’s paramedic class.
No formal waitlisted acceptance will be given and it is the student’s responsibility to communicate their intent with the Paramedic Program as space becomes available.
