1. Go to the live webpage you want to edit.
2. Double click on the hidden link for Content Manager logins. This will bring you
to the login screen of OmniUpdate.
3. Enter your credentials and click "Login". This will bring you to and editable area
for that specific page.
1. Once you are in OmniUpdate you are brought to an editable area for that specific
page. Click on the green "edit text area" button of the area you’d like to edit. This
will open an editor a lot like Micosoft Word so you can edit your content. Keep in
mind Best Practices for Creating Web Content.
2. When you are done editing, click the "Save" disc icon at the upper left. This
will bring you to a preview of what your page will look like.
3. If the preview looks good, click "Publish" (another window will pop up, and
click Publish again). This will publish your edited page to the live website or send
your changes to be approved by an administrator.
4. If the preview doesn't look good, click "Edit", and you will be taken back to
the editable area to make additional changes.
Often when pasting text from Microsoft Word, styles are inherited that conflict with
the website styling. If you run into issues when pasting text, you can do either of
the following:
1. Copy from Word, then paste into OU. Select the text that you pasted into OU
and click the white eraser icon in the tool bar. This will "clean up" the messy formatting.
-OR-
2. Copy from Word, then paste into Notepad or Wordpad. This will remove any styling.
Copy the text from Wordpad or Notepad and paste into OU.
There are two ways to upload files. This is the easiest way. You can also upload files
by following the instructions under "How to Overwrite a File".
1. In the editable area of your page, highlight the text you want to be linked
to this file.
2. In the toolbar, click on the silver chain link icon in the upper right.
3. An "Insert/Edit Link" box will pop up. Click on the red, white, and blue directory
icon to the right of the Link URL field. This will bring up a a directory of files
within your web area.
4. Navigate to either the "pdf" or "images" folder in this directory (depending
on what type of file you are uploading.
5. When you are in the correct folder, click the "Upload" button on the lower left.
6. A new box will pop up. Select "Choose File". Browse your computer and choose
the file you want to upload, and click "Open". Keep in mind Best Practices for naming/saving files.
7. Once you've selected your file, click "Upload." You will receive a message saying
the file upload was successful. Click "OK".
8. Now, you are back to your directory list. Click on the file name you just uploaded
within the directory and click "Select File."
9. You will be taken back to the "Insert/Edit Link" window. Select the "Target"
to "Open in a New Window."
10. Click "Update". You selected text will now be linked to the new file you uploaded.
Before you begin, you must make sure your image is sized appropriately. Maximum width
for your image is 430px. If you need assistance with images, please contact the Webmaster.
Also, please make sure all people in your photos have signed the SUNY Cobleskill Release Agreement. Do not post photos that are copyrited or property of others. Not all photos on the
web are free for public use.
1. In the editable area of your page, click your cursor where you want your image
to be inserted.
2. In the toolbar, click on the image icon (with the mountains and sun.)
3. The Insert/Edit Image box will pop up. Click on the directory icon at the end of
the Image URL line. This will bring up the directory of web files.
4. On the top of the window (under File Browser) click on wwwdev. Then, navigate through
the folders until you get into the images folder of your section of the web. Click
into the images folder, so the path at the top of the window is similar to this (with
the images folder at the end): sites / wwwdev / campus-life / residential-life / images
/
5. Click upload to add a photo.
6. Click choose file and select the file from your computer.
7. Click upload. You will then see the image file appear in the list of files.
8. Click on the name of the file and click Select File.
9. Add an short image description and click Insert.
10. Your image will then appear in your page.
1. Even before logging in to OmniUpdate, make sure the file on your computer is ready
for upload. This means that it is named the exact same name as the online file you
want to overwrite. For example, if you want to replace a file located here: "www.cobleskill.edu/academics/newsletter2012.pdf"
you will need to make sure your file is named "newsletter2012.pdf".
2. Login to OmniUpdate, click on the dark blue "Pages" tab in the upper left of
the screen. This will bring you to a listed directory of files in your folder.
3. Make sure you are in the right website folder. You can check this by looking
at the "Location" at the top left of the box. That will show you a folder chain (i.e.
"top / academics / liberal arts" ). The last folder listed is the folder you are in.
If you are overwriting a PDF or image, make sure to go to the "pdfs" or "images" folder
(i.e. "top / academics / liberal arts / pdf " ).
4. Once you are in the correct folder, click "Upload" in the upper right of the
box.
5. Click on "Choose File" and browse your computer for the file you are going to
upload.
Select the file and click "Open". This will place your file in the que for upload.
6. Make sure to click the checkbox next to "Overwrite" in the upper left.
7. Click "Upload" towards the bottom of the box.
8. A message box will pop up to tell you if your upload was successful.
9. To return to your webpage for editing, click on the "Pages" tab again and select
your folder and file for editing.

4. To Link to an External Webpage: Copy the full URL of the webpage (i.e. http://www.google.com/) and paste into the
"Link URL" field. Select the "Target" to "Open in a New Window." Click "Insert."
5. To Link to an Internal Webpage: Click on the red, white, and blue directory icon to the right of the "Link URL" field.
This will bring up a a directory of files within your web area.
Click on the page you want to link to within the directory and click "Select File."
Click "Insert."
6. To Link to a File: Click on the red, white, and blue directory icon to the right of the "Link URL" field.
This will bring up a a directory of files within your web area. Navigate to either
the "pdf" or "images" folder in this directory (depending on what type of file you
are uploading. Click on the name of the file you want to link to and click "Select
File." Click "Insert."
7. Don't forget to Save.
