Bronx Zoo and SUNY Cobleskill Announce Interdisciplinary Internship Agreement

SUNY Cobleskill and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS) Bronx Zoo are collaborating to make the zoo an affiliate placement site for students enrolled in the College’s Histotechnician Program. This is a unique new internship for a SUNY Cobleskill student that will be offered each summer. The selected student will complete a 10-week training program at the Bronx Zoo, gaining applied learning experiences in the zoo’s histology laboratory. Read the full release on Media Hub >>

 

A Veteran’s Day Story

Emma Paden begins today’s session by outlining the measures visitors must take to ensure safe interactions with Jake, Mona, and any of the other horses and ponies taking part in the day’s activities. Beyond the safety measures, the class participants have mastered some of the finer points of grooming, handling, and leading. Since SUNY Cobleskill and Albany Stratton VA Medical Center launched a collaboration to bring Veterans to the College’s Equine Center for a weekly program, the number of participants has grown from two to closer to a dozen. SUNY Cobleskill’s acclaimed Therapeutic Horsemanship Program will participate in the 2019 Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH INTL.) Conference and Annual Meeting November 8-10 in Denver. As PATH celebrates its 50th anniversary, SUNY Cobleskill Associate Professor and PATH INTL. A new opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree at Hudson Valley Community College is within reach, beginning in January. Through SUNY Cobleskill’s BBA degree completion program, enrolled HVCC students who have completed their associate’s degree in a business field are able to seamlessly apply earned-credits to the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. SUNY Cobleskill delivers the BBA program in-person at HVCC and through on-line instruction, meaning students start and conclude their studies in the same place. AASCU Honors State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill (SUNY Cobleskill) with 2019 Excellence and Innovation Award for the Institute for Rural Vitality

The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) today announced SUNY Cobleskill as the recipient of the 2019 Excellence and Innovation Award for Regional and Economic Development. This national award recognizes the achievements of the Institute for Rural Vitality at SUNY Cobleskill, created in 2016 as an extension of the College’s commitment to serve the public good. Through Institute funding, faculty fellows and student interns fully engage with the community on sustainable economic development and enrichment of regional services, ranging from launching incubator businesses to providing unique intergenerational programming for those living with Alzheimer’s disease.

SUNY Cobleskill Awarded $1.9 Million Diesel Technology and Power Machinery Workforce Development Grant from US Department of Labor

A Diesel Technology and Power Machinery Training grant award of more than $1.9 million from the US Department of Labor is reinforcing SUNY Cobleskill’s ability to develop skilled members of the workforce, and enhance opportunities for students. The grant will support initiatives in the College’s Agricultural Engineering Department, and aims to fortify the equipment distributor technician employment pipeline by establishing partnerships linking employers with technical educators and students. The resulting network will increase job visibility, create new opportunities for dealers to sponsor students, and lead to an overall improvement in the quality and quantity of Associate-degree graduates qualified to pursue equipment distributor technician positions. High Schoolers Explore SUNY Cobleskill, Engage in Hands-on Learning as College Hosts Ag High School Day

More than 1,000 students and faculty members from nearly 50 secondary schools converged on SUNY Cobleskill Friday, for the College’s annual Agriculture High School (Ag HS) Day. Students from Western New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and beyond participated in activities hosted by all five academic departments in the College’s School of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The day provides a chance for students to explore programs they may elect to pursue at the college level, as well as meet faculty members across areas of study. SUNY Cobleskill Early Childhood Progam to Host Public and Professionals at ACEs Conference on Trauma-Informed Care

Cobleskill, NY – SUNY Cobleskill’s Early Childhood Program will host the 4th Annual ACEs Conference on Trauma-Informed Care at the College on Wednesday, October 16. Presented by the Schoharie County ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Team, in cooperation with SUNY Cobleskill’s Early Childhood and Psychology Department, the conference will address the challenges that communities, schools, and organizations face in enacting positive change to understand trauma. Attendees will gain exposure to practical applications of trauma-responsive practices with resilience development strategies. The full-day conference runs from 9 am to 3:15 pm. Master the Art of Sausage Making at SUNY Cobleskill’s One-Day Workshop

Sausage making is the focus of the first in a series of meat-specific workshops SUNY Cobleskill’s Office of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) is offering, at the College’s USDA-certified meat processing facility. The intensive, one-day program on Friday, October 25 invites attendees to explore basic charcuterie – from the meat breakdown and selection processes, to stuffing, casing, and sampling. SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers Athletics Announces Move to North Atlantic Conference

Cobleskill, NY – SUNY Cobleskill has announced that the College will be entering the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) as a fulltime member effective July 1, 2020. SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tiger Athletics will compete in 13 NAC sports beginning in 2020-2021, including Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Soccer, Cross Country, and Outdoor Track and Field. SUNY Cobleskill Creates First Two Endowed Professorships in Response to SUNY Scholars of Excellence Challenge

Cobleskill – SUNY Cobleskill has created the SUNY system’s first two faculty endowments under the new SUNY Scholars of Excellence program, Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson announced Friday. The endowments serve to recognize the most gifted educators on SUNY’s campuses. The new endowed professorships have been established in response to the Chancellor’s challenge to create new faculty endowments, issued to all campuses during her State of the University System address in January. Institute for Rural Vitality at SUNY Cobleskill Invests in Future of Schoharie County Arts, Announces 2019-2020 Arts Fellow

Cobleskill, NY – The Institute for Rural Vitality at SUNY Cobleskill has selected Cobleskill-based artist, furniture maker, and woodworker Dean Babin to be its first Arts Fellow. Babin will serve as a fellow of the Institute for 2019-2020, and will be awarded a $5,000 fellowship through the Institute’s Center for Arts and Culture. Student-Driven Service and Leadership come Full Circle, SUNY Cobleskill makes $2,000 Contribution to Regional Foodbank

Cobleskill, NY – SUNY Cobleskill this week presented a check for more than $2,000 to the Regional Foodbank of Northeastern New York. The contribution, presented by student-representatives, is a sum generated by a series of initiatives spearheaded by the student-body, that include personal care, food, and money drives throughout the Spring 2019 Semester. The Regional Foodbank is able to purchase one pound of food for $0.16, making the $2004.85 total presented Tuesday sufficient for the Foodbank to purchase 12,530 lbs. of food. Read the full release on Media Hub >>

Cobleskill, NY – SUNY Cobleskill is hosting Grasstravaganza, the premier in-season grazing conference, at the College Thursday, July 25, through Saturday, July 27, in cooperation with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS), Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE), and New York Grazing Coalition. SUNY Cobleskill – NYS DEC Agreement will Enhance Statewide Conservation, Add New Member to College Faculty

Cobleskill, NY – SUNY Cobleskill and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) have entered into an agreement to collaborate on projects for the conservation and management of freshwater fish and mussels in New York State.
