Registration for Disability Support

Student Responsibilities:

If you wish to receive accommodations, you must register with AccessABILITY Resources. Follow the steps outlined below. Should you have any questions about this process, feel free to contact our office at any time.

Step 1 - Self-Identify

After you have been accepted for admission to SUNY Cobleskill, register for academic accommodations with AccessABILITY Resources. To register, you will need to email or fax a copy of your most recent psychological as well as a copy of your IEP or 504 plan to DSS@cobleskill.edu or fax to 518-255-6430.

Step 2 - Attend Summer Transition Orientation

(Optional but Highly Recommended)
Summer Transition Orientation is for accepted Students with Disabilities and their families to learn more about the support services offered through SUNY Cobleskill Office of AccessABILITY Resources. This is a three day session, held just prior to Freshman Orientation. Students will be allowed to move in early to what will be their regular dorm room. Parents will stay for an afternoon information session. There is an additional fee for this service. Details and registration forms will be available at Accepted Student Days or by contacting our office. Visit the AR Summer Transition Program page to complete the registration form.

Deadline for applications is August 1.

Topics include:

Step 3 - Visit AccessABILITY Resources

During the first week of classes for each semester, students with disabilities must meet with the Coordinator of AccessABILITY Resources to develop or pick-up a copy of their current accommodation letter, which they will then present to their professors. AR is located in the Lower Level of Van Wagenen Library in CASE. (This is also the learning/tutoring center for ALL students.)

Step 4 - Show Accommodations Letter to Faculty

It is the student’s responsibility to discuss their accommodations with faculty. It is highly recommended that this occur during an office hour appointment with each faculty member, early in the semester and prior to the need to use the accommodations, whenever possible.
Present the accommodations letter to each of your professors for that semester, if you wish to use accommodations for that class. You may pick and choose which professors will see this, and for which courses you may wish to use your accommodations.

Step 5 - Arrange for Accommodations as Needed

If you would like to take a test in the Testing Center, you must complete the Request for Testing Accommodations form. This requires the professor’s signed approval FOR EACH TEST. It must then be returned to AccessABILITY Resources at least 2 business days prior to the test.

Students in need of note-takers will be asked to assist in the process of identifying providers of those services. Methods are in place to protect confidentiality, when requested, but students will be expected to self-advocate, and communicate with faculty about these needs.
